Down Under, 90 not out!!

As many of you know my mother took me to Oz to celebrate her 90th birthday with the family - and a warm welcome we were given at the airport (and not just the weather!!)

The Easter weekend had glorious weather - catching up on jetlag with clear blue skies was not a problem, cooking toast on the BBQ........ with a Kookaburra looking on........and a visit to the park for a picnic with Wattlebird joining in....

The back garden proved a good local patch with Blue Wrens, Honeyeaters, and Red-tailed Black Cockatoo........and others....

Trips to the beaches (and resorts) provided Crested Tern, Silver Gull (table-hopper) and Darter.  Its not just Brid gulls that raid the chips and Darters are like Kingfishers and sit on the 'no fishing' notices or in this case 'diving prohibited'.  They (the Darter) had a nest in one of the trees next the harbour - amazing how many people just walked past without looking till the Mellor/McMeikan/Willis photo team got to work!

And so to a week in Esperance - now that is a place I could move to tomorrow! Miles of white sand beaches to explore, some amazing waves, kangaroos on the beach and the famous Pink Lake (although will admit that the one we found wasn't THE Pink Lake as that had faded)

A boat trip to Woody Island gave great views of a White-bellied Sea Eagle - two circling the boat - they obviously knew it meant food!!  And Cape Barren Goose..... so two lifers that day!!

Back to Perth and a guided tour of Kings Park flora and fauna with a great guide - Roz - thanks - and love the frog.

A suburban nature reserve had a great board walk, bit like Filey Dams but warmer!!

And a final lunch at a beach side bistro - enlivened by an Osprey fly past.....

Kangaroos visiting the back garden!!

and a sunset over Perth disrupted by smoke from a bush fire
