Strange encounters at Bempton

A quick trip to Bempton Cliffs today  - with the aim of catching the Red Arrows and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight over Scarborough Bay - and mission accomplished.  A bit distant but a fantastic show....  keep reading for another even closer encounter.....

and then a short stop at Jubilee proved a bit more exciting than expected, watching the planes, then turned round to find two young gannets had overshot and were on the path!!  Sometimes encounters with nature are closer than you expect!!

edinburgh zoo

I hadn't been to visit for a long long time, so it was good to see in the company of me Mum!!  The Pandas were indoors and asleep so we got good views and the Meerkats did what Meerkats do.....

and 50 years apart  - the penguin walk....

and then back to Mums garden....

Sunday 2 June 2013

has Summer arrived?

You would not have thought so on Saturday morning as we left Bridlington North Pier bound for Bempton.  Flat calm in the bay and then we hit the Head...  However on the way had only the second sighting of a Black Guillemot in 24 years of the RSPB cruises operating - WOW!!

Sunday was a different story - sunny and relatively warm (if you stayed out of the wind) so heading for Bempton Reserve for my regular volunteering 'bit', armed with camera I allowed myself a ration of gannet shots.

I love this one - and it IS three birds....
