We finally managed to get a Storm petrel at about 1am after a fine evening on the beach...

and another windy day at Bempton

and you thought it was all over...

the last puffin cruise of the season (and then another one)

It was the final RSPB puffin cruise of 2011 yesterday - and more puffins on the sea than I have seen for years.  In fact it was so good that I went out again today - not quite so many but still impressive - and diving gannets too...........

The cruise got of to a good start for a puffin cruise - around 200 little gulls and sandwich terns with a distant arctic skua before we had left the bay........  but soon settled down with plenty of puffins still around, the Shags posed well as did the gannet families at Bempton and the kittiwake chicks are growing up - and then coming back into the bay - more little gulls - all in all a good day!
